Staying motivated during your job hunt...

Staying motivated during your job hunt...

Sometimes the road can be long, especially if you are on the job hunting journey. Here are some tips on how to stay motivated when the going gets tough:

1) Remember you are not alone:
Sometimes it can be hard when you are sat at home, in your local library or searching at the job centre to remember that you are one of many people currently seeking a new role. Take solace in the fact that there are many people going through the same process as you. Why not try to connect with fellow job hunters by joining a community group where you can offer each other valuable tips!

2) Set realistic goals:
This can either be daily, weekly or more long-term goals, it is important to review what your objectives are. It is also important to recognise your achievements and reward yourself for moving ahead in landing your ideal job!

3) Volunteer:
Volunteering or work placements can offer you valuable work experience and improve your skills as well as having the opportunity to meet new people! It is also a handy tool for networking with potential employers.

4) Don’t panic and stay positive:
Rejection can be hard and it’s even harder to maintain a positive attitude when faced with it. But remember that a 6 to 12 months job search is the norm and you can learn from rejection by gaining valuable feedback from potential employers. Also surround yourself with positive people and don’t lose your sense of humour.

5) Finally, remember to take good care of yourself:
Try to stick to a good diet and exercise routine or you could even dress for your job search as you would in the office. Try to also take some time off and don’t let the job hunting process dominate your life; after all, life is for living.
