An apprenticeship is a great way to develop your skills and gain a qualification outside of the traditional classroom. If you find that you’re lacking experience or that you want to expand your skillset, but don’t want to go back to school, an apprenticeship could be a great option for you! Here are 8 reasons to consider an apprenticeship…

Earn While You Learn

An apprenticeship is a great way to develop valuable skills, gain an industry recognised qualification and get paid for it!

Practical Experience

Unlike a lot of classroom based courses an apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to learn in a very practical environment, gaining knowledge based on your experiences not just theory.

Lots of Choice

Lots of people make the mistake of thinking apprenticeships are only available in the heavy industry sector. This is not the case! As apprenticeships have grown in popularity so too has the number of opportunities. Lots of companies from a large variety of sectors offer apprenticeships ranging from administration and design to plumbing and engineering.

Support from Industry Professionals

A big difference between an apprenticeship and a classroom based course is that an apprentice will be developing their skills within a live work environment; this gives you a unique opportunity to ask questions and seek support from professionals that you may not have access to at College or University.

No Student Loan

One major benefit of an apprenticeship is being able to gain new skills and experiences without a student loan. The average university student will leave education with around £30,000 of debt, whereas an apprentice is able to avoid this completely while still gaining an industry recognised qualification.

Paid Holiday

Apprentices are treated like any other employee, which means that you will be entitled to time off with holiday pay.

Have a Degree? Don’t Worry!

You can still apply for an apprenticeship if you have a degree, so long as your employer can show that you’d be gaining skills you didn’t develop at University.

Stand Out From the Crowd

Apprenticeships can help you to stand out from the crowd in an interview, as you’ll have lots of unique skills and experiences to use as examples to demonstrate your suitability for a role.
