The 14th – 18th March marks National Apprenticeship Week which celebrates the positive impact that apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

Baxter Personnel’s very own apprentice, Abbie Allen joined our Darlington Branch as a Resourcer in October 2015 and has already progressed well within the business. We caught up with Abbie to discuss how her apprenticeship is going so far and what she is looking forward to in the future…

Why did you decide to join Baxter Personnel as an apprentice?

I decided to join Baxter Personnel because the thought of helping people find employment really appealed to me. I also love interacting with others and knew I would enjoy the face to face aspect of the role. My mind was fully made up during the interview process as I found my potential colleagues to be very friendly and welcoming.

What do you enjoy most about being an apprentice within the recruitment industry?

I really enjoy working towards a tight deadline and I love it when I manage to fill a role for a client. I also enjoy performing some of the customer service duties within the branch such as meeting and greeting candidates and helping them to find employment. Recruitment is a very fast paced environment and I love how busy my days are!

What have you learnt so far during your time with Baxter Personnel?

I think the main thing which I’ve learnt is how to match the right candidate to a specific job role. During my time with Baxter Personnel I have greatly improved my IT skills as I’ve learnt how to use the company’s database and other systems. My apprenticeship with Baxter Personnel has also taught me how to handle difficult situations and provide great customer service.

What are your main career goals for the future?

Once I’ve complete my apprenticeship, my main aim is to become a recruitment consultant at Baxter Personnel as I really enjoy the working environment.  I look forward to achieving my goals with the continued support which I receive from my colleagues.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship within recruitment to others?

Without a doubt I would recommend an apprenticeship within the recruitment industry, as the role is very varied and there is always a lot to learn.  It’s definitely an industry which holds a future for me and I look forward to developing my career further with Baxter Personnel.
