Changing career paths can be daunting process, but remember you are not alone; many people over the course of their working lives decide to change their careers for a number of reasons.

To make things a little easier, we have come up with 7 different things you will need to consider before making the big move:

1) Review
Before you decide to move careers, it is important to assess why you want to leave your current role. It is most likely that you no longer enjoy what you are doing or you maybe dissatisfied in some other way. But it is useful to review what you do enjoy and the skills which you have gained, as they can be transferred to something more suitable.

2) Research
It is essential to research which career you would like to do. Does a career change mean you would have to work different hours or take a pay cut? It is important to see if a lifestyle change would suit your current circumstances.

3) Learn
Once you have made the decision of which career path you are going to take, you may need to undertake some training.  Heading back into the classroom can be costly, so it is important to make sure you have the time, money and commitment to do so.

4) Experience
Changing careers is like starting out on the road to employment all over again. Volunteering or work placements are ideal for gaining the vital experience needed and will demonstrate to a potential employer that you are fully committed in making the change.

5) Network
If you know anyone who is working in your desired field, remember to contact them! If not, go out there and find people who you can network with. You can do this online, for instance Twitter and LinkedIn are great tools to connect with professionals in your desire sector. Once connected, they can offer you job leads, updates and valuable advice on how you can get your foot in the door.

6) Job Hunt
Once you’ve decided what you would like to do, the next step is to begin your job hunt.  Depending how long you’ve been in your current career, you maybe need to refresh your CV and covering letter to reflect what you are now looking for.

7) Be Patient
Finally, changing careers doesn’t always happen overnight, so it is important to remain patient. Try to be as flexible as possible when it comes to salary, working hours and location, as this will help you get on the right path to securing your dream job role.
